Near objects are seen clearly but distant objects are not in proper focus.

When the eyeball is too long or the cornea (the front surface of the eye) has too much curvature, light entering the eye is not focused properly causing distortion of distant vision. Myopia is a common vision condition that affects nearly 30% of the population.
